KCCL (Kenya Community Centre for Learning)

On September 4th, 2001, Kenya Community Centre for Learning (KCCL) became the first middle/high School in East Africa to cater to the unique educational and social needs of students' 10-18 years old with learning disabilities and mild mental handicaps. The school serves students from diverse cultural, religious and economic backgrounds. It operates as a non-profit trust with income generated through school fees and donations.

Each year, KCCL organizes a trip for its students to various parts of Kenya. In the year 2004, the children spent a pleasant and enriching time in Naivasha and Gametrackers donated the vehicle and driver. More recently in 2005, all KCCL students participated in a camping week in conjunction with Earth and Environmental Week in Kenya. The older students spent five days in Tsavo National Park at Kishushe Lodge. They spent their time tracking game, exploring the environment and learning to identify flora and fauna. Again Gametrackers provided a vehicle and driver for these activities. We have also donated computers to the school, which have proved extremely useful and important to the community of KCCL.

Goals of KCCL:

Today - Today KCCL is working to meet the great needs in Kenya for alternative educational models for children with special learning needs. In addition, the school is training Kenyan teachers to work with students with learning difficulties so that this model can be disseminated throughout Kenya.

Future- KCCL's 15 year vision provides for a comprehensive facility which will include nursery, primary, secondary, post graduate and adult continued education programs. Community services will include teacher training, an assessment centre, vocational programs, sports/music/library and drama centers, career placement and employment opportunities. To house students and staff, we will provide boarding and residential facilities including an assisted or transitional living program.
