Highlights

If you have time to spend discovering the beauty of Kenya, then this is the safari package is for you, a combination of camping, hotels, bush and beach! You will visit the Maasai Mara, the ‘Jewel’ of Kenya’s wildlife viewing area, cycle round Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate with towering cliffs, Gorges, and Volcanoes and then onto the Central Highlands for some White Water Rafting, Zip Lining and other action packed activities. We finish this trip at the Indian Ocean in the lovely sleepy fishing village of Watamu with its pristine beaches and azure waters.

Tour Details

We recommend your first couple of days recovering from any jet lag you may have acquired on your flights in a Nairobi Hotel and this is where you will meet your group, acclimatise to the altitude and experience our local customs. For those of you interested, there will be guided tours to explore Nairobi, where you will discover the local markets, watch Artisans at work and at the end of your day enjoy a sundowner in this interesting city.

After Nairobi our first stop is The Central Highlands near the foothills of Mount Kenya. Our days are spent White Water Rafting, Waterfall Swimming, Canopy Walking with various other activitie such as Zip Lining available.

From here we have more activities in store for you at “The Forest” for more thrills such as Zip Lining, Mountain Biking and Horse Riding. We then head to Lake Naivasha where we have yet more activties for you: Boat rides across the lake to enjoy the mass of birdlife; Cycle and/or Hike around Hell’s Gate. It is here you will discover the most spectacular scenery, making it one of the most atmospheric Parks in Africa: Towering Cliffs; Water gouged Gorges; Scrub clad Volcanoes and belching plumes of Geothermal Steam. Then onto the Maasai Mara, regarded as the ‘Jewel’ of Kenya’s wildlife viewing area where, over a couple of days, you will enjoy fabulous game drives.

You will need some downtime after all this activity and we head down to the Indian Ocean and your accommodation in Watamu.Whether you are a newcomer or not to the Indian Ocean in terms of snorkelling or diving, there are plenty of exciting things to do: Deep Sea Fishing; Dhow Sailing; Canoeing on the Creek; Kite Surfing and/ or Speed Boating. Alternatively for those wishing to take life at a more leisurely pace, you can simply take long lazy walks along on the pristine beaches and/or swing on hammocks under the palm trees reflecting on all you have experienced here in Kenya.

Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi to Ngare Ndare

We pick you up early from your Nairobi hotel and head towards the Central Highlands and the Ngare Ndare Forest, a lush indigenous forest at the foothills of Mt. Kenya. This beautiful place has azure pools that glisten at the bottom of waterfalls and 200 year old trees that stretch into the canopy supporting a rich variety of bird and animal life. It is here we set up camp at the Ngare Ndare Forest Camping Site. (Lunch & Dinner included)

Main activities: Waterfall swimming in shallow pool and canopy walk. The canopy walkway is a 40 ft. high aerial bridge of wire mesh and cables through the tree canopy and extending 450 meters long, where you can sometimes spot Elephants and Buffaloes that come to wallow and drink the water below.

Optional Activities: Rock Climbing and Abseiling for the Experienced Adventurer.

Day 2Ngare Ndare to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast we break camp and head towards the nearby infamous Ol Pejeta Conservancy: Ol Pejeta is an important conservation success and is the largest Black Rhinoceros Sanctuary in East Africa and home to three of the world’s last remaining Northern White Rhino. It is the only place in Kenya to see Chimpanzees, in a Sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. After our day at the Conservancy we set up camp at one of the beautifully designated campsites in the Conservancy (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main activities: Game drive in search of the Big Five; Visit to the Rhino and Chimpanzee Sanctuaries.

Day 3Ol Pejeta to Sagana

After breakfast, we break camp and enjoy a final activity before departing towards Sagana town near the mighty Tana River and our next experience: White Water Rafting. We set up camp before heading off for an enjoying and exhilarating time on the river. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main activity: White Water Rafting.

Optional Activities: Artificial Wall Climb, Zip Lining across the river, Hire of Mountain Bikes, Bungee Jumping over the Tana river.

Day 4Sagana to Lake Naivasha via 'The Forest'

Breakfast, break up camp and depart towards “The Forest”. Kereita is situated in the heart of the Aberdare Ranges and provides an affordable range of activities that will cater to your ‘Spirit of adventure.’ The big draw, however, is the Flying Fox, a series of six zip lines that traverse the valley, spanning over 2km and offering international levels of safety standards and highly trained instructors. After an adrenaline filled day we depart toward Lake Naivasha to pitch up camp for the night by the lake shore.

Optional Activities: Zip Lining, Mountain Biking, Nature Walks, archery and horse riding.

Day 5Hells Gate National Park and Naivasha

An early start for those who want to enjoy a spectacular sunrise before a day spent at nearby Hells Gate National park; one of the few parks you can enjoy outside the confines of a vehicle. There are numerous activities in and around Naivasha to keep you busy in the afternoon as well.

This park is named for the intense geothermal activity that goes on within its boundaries and you can enjoy the spectacular scenery including the towering cliffs, water gouged gorges, stark rock towers, scrub clad volcanoes and belching plumes of geothermal steam. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main activity: Cycling in the park; Game Drive

Optional Activities: Rock climb up Fischers Tower; Swimming in the Natural Geothermal Pool; Visit Elsamere conservation Centre; Explore a local Flower Farm; Golf at a local club; Horse Riding; Visit Crescent Island Game Sanctuary.

Day 6Maasai Mara

Breakfast before a morning Boat Ride on the Lake and head for the Maasai Mara, regarded as the ‘Jewel’ of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas and it is here where you can discover the most amazing game sightings in search of the Big Five. Pitch up camp for the next three nights at the campsite located just outside the reserve. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main Activities: One hour early morning boat ride on Lake Naivasha in search of Hippotamus, Pelicans and various other water birds; Afternoon Game Drive in search of the Big Five in the Mara.

Day 7-8Maasai Mara

We spend today exploring the Maasai Mara either on early morning and late afternoon game drives, alternatively there is the option to go out for a full day game drive, with a well stocked picnic basket, particularly rewarding during the Wildebeest migration months from July through to September. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main Activity: Game drives.

Optional Activities: Visit to a Maasai village; Swimming at a local lodge; Bush Walks with Masai Guide; Horse Riding and Balloon Safaris with Champagne Breakfast

Day 9 Maasai Mara to Nairobi

Break up camp & view game en route back towards Nairobi via Narok town to arrive late afternoon. For those heading to the coast, you will be able to enjoy an evening at your hotel and a much deserved sleep. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included)

Main Activities: Game Viewing.

Day 10Nairobi to Watamu Extension

After breakfast and for those continuing, we drop you off at the airport for your short flight to the coast. On arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel in Watamu for some much needed rest and relaxation. (Breakfast & Dinner included)

Main Activities: Swimming; Wandering along the beach, Swim in the Sea

Day 11-14Watamu

Your days here are spent at your own leisure, relaxing by the pool or partaking in the various beach activities available in Watamu. The water sports available at your hotel include snorkelling, Kite Surfing and Sport Fishing. South of Malindi there is Mida Creek which covers circa 32 square kilometers. It consists of a muddy plain that can only be discovered with low tides, Mangrove Forests that attract a multitude of bird species amongst them are Kingfishers, Egrets, Ospreys, Sea Eagles, Yellow Billed Storks and Grey Herons and often you will see the Flamingoes feeding on the crustaceans that are present. A lovely way to spend an evening is to explore the Creeks in a kayak before returning back before Sundowners on your decking.

For trips further afield your hotel will help help organise visits to the Gedi Ruins, one of the few historical sites in Kenya. These ruins, surrounded by Forests with Monkeys and beautiful Butterflies, are the remains of an Arab city that dates back to the period between the 13th and 17th centuries. Alternatively you may wish to visit Malindi town for some sightseeing or explore Malindi Marine Park, renowned for its Fringing Reefs, Coral, Sea Grass, Mangroves, Mudflats, Marine Mammals and Turtles.

Main Activities: Swimming; Snorkelling; Wandering along the beach; Exploring local markets; Discovering local villages.

Optional Activities: Deep Sea Fishing; Boat trips; Water Sports; Kite Surfing; Guided Tours of Gede Ruins; Watamu Nightlife; Canoe Trips on Mida Creek; Guided Nature Walk in Arubuko Sokoke Forest.

Day 15Watamu to Nairobi

Final breakfast before catching the short flight back to Nairobi.
