Uganda Activity & Adventure Highlights

This trip to Uganda is an action packed adventure begins in Entebbe and truly is an experience of a lifetime; From Zip Lining in the Mabira Forest Canopies to Trekking with Chimpanzees in the Kibale National Park; Rafting on the River Nile, Cycling through the Crater Lakes and Hiking up Mt Rwenzori to Swimming in the Kitagata Hot Springs. Finally, we end this amazing adventure Trekking with the Gorillas in the Bwindi Forest and exploring the beauty of Lake Bunyonyi from a local dugout canoe.

Tour Details

This experience of a lifetime begins in Entebbe and takes you to the Mabira Forest where you will be taken Ziplining in the Mabira Forest Canopy where will send you soaring through the tallest trees in the rainforest. You will then be led by expereinced guides, through a network of 5 Ziplines that pass through ancient trees across the River Musamya. Next stop is the source of the River Nile at Jinja and an afternoon rafting; beautiful scenery and certain challenge points selected for an enthralling but safe adventure.

En route to your next adventure, we take you through lusciouslly green countryside and numerous tea plantations to Fort Portal, a town that rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon. And it is here we go in search of the Chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park. The park is also home for 10 other primates including L’ Hoests, Red Colobus, Blues, Red Tailed and Gray Cheeked Mangabey. On arrival at our next destination we take an afternoon biking adventure to explore the beautiful crater region and its lakes.

Next stop in this activity packed holiday is Nyakalengija and the starting point for a day’s hike up Mount Rwenzori, as visitors you will hike up to 2300m above sea level and if lucky will have views of Baker and Portal Peaks and the snowcapped Margherita Peak; a truly spectacular sight!

We take a day out of our tour to head to the “Switzerland of Africa” area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads. Along the way you will visit Kitagata Hot Springs, a place considered to have healing properties by the natives. There are a number of activities to choose from here such as; Gorilla Trekking; Mountain Biking; Batwa Pygmy community visit; a Boat Ride; a local School visit; more Zip Lining across Lake Bunyonyi or simply enjoy a walk in this beautiful place. We end our trip exploring Lake Bunyonyi’s beauty, secrets and people in a local dugout canoe.

Itinerary

Day 1Entebbe Airport to your Hotel

On arrival at Entebbe airport you will be welcomed by your safari guide and depending on your arrival time, you may be able to take a city tour of the town. Entebbe was the colonialists’ administrative Centre and has many buildings that date back to over half a century ago. The name Entebbe means “the chair” in Luganda, which is the local language of the area. You may choose to visit Entebbe Botanical Gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education Centre as well.

Optional Activities: City Tour, Visit to Entebbe Botanical Gardens or a trip to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre.

Day 2Drive to Mabira Forest Zip Lining and Nature Walks

After breakfast we head east to Mabira Forest: the largest natural forest in the Uganda. It is here you will take a truly beautiful Zip Lining Experience and Nature walk in the Mabira Forest Canopy. Experienced Guides send you soaring through these ancient trees and across the River Musamya. This network of 5 Ziplines, climbing gears and art high Ropes are all imported from America. Participants are winched up the first tree then taken through the whole system and repelled on a 78m diagonal Zip. When you are high up in the canopy you enjoy unbelievable views of the forest layers: The mammals such as the Grey Cheeked Mangabeys and Red Tailed Monkeys; Birds such as the Palm Nut Vulture, the African Fish Eagle and the Great Blue Turaco and finally the Roaring Griffin Falls underneath you. After this active morning we take time to enjoy some lunch and then for those with more energy left, we take you on a walk through the Forest to allow you to discover more of its secrets. Late afternoon In the evening we head into Jinja where you will be staying the night. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included).

Day 3Half Day Water Rafting, City Tour & Nile Boat Ride.

We leave Jinja town and head to the River Nile, where we fit you out with life jackets and helmets before heading to the start point. After some practical instructions and detailed safety briefing, we take you down to the river’s edge where your mornings rafting experience begins. You will be taken through the meanders of the Nile to enjoy the beautiful scenery and obviously we have certain challenge points en route to ensure you have an enthralling but safe adventure. After lunch we drive you back to Jinja for a City Tour and Boat Ride to see where the river Nile begins its 4,000mile journey to the Mediterranean from Lake Victoria. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included).

Day 4Drive to Port Fortal Town

Today we drive to Fort Portal through the verdant countryside which is home to numerous tea plantations and if you so choose we can stop, talk to the pickers and discover a little more about these agribusinesses. The town of Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon and time permitting you might be able to enjoy a brief walk around the town before dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included).

Day 5Chimpanzee Trekking and Biking through the Crater Lakes

After breakfast we head towards the Kibale Forest National Park where we go in search of the many Primates including the Chimpanzees, L’ Hoests, Red Colobus, Blues, Red Tailed and Grey Cheeked Mangabey that live here. The guide is fantastic at providing you with detailed information you want to know on the Forest fauna and flora ensuring your walk is seriously enjoyable. After lunch we hope that some of you still have the energy to Cycle through the beautiful Crater Region with our experienced guide. (Breakfast, packed Lunch & Dinner included).

Day 6Drive to Kasese for a day’s hike up Mt. Rwenzori

Today we drive to Kasese town and head to Nyakalengija, the starting point for today’s hike up Mt. Rwenzori. We begin by following the River Mubuku before ascending up to 2,300m above sea level and if you are lucky and weather is clear you will be able to see the Baker and Portal Peaks and the snow capped Margherita Peak. We believe the views are truly spectacular and well worth the hard work getting there! Along the way we suggest you keep a lookout for the Chameleons, Squirrels, Vervet Monkeys and many birds that you will see en route. We head back to the lodge for dinner and a much needed sleep after this incredible day. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 7Drive to Lake Bunyonyi via Kitagata Hot Springs

After breakfast we head for the “Switzerland of Africa” or otherwise known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads. Along the way we stop to take a dip in the Kitagata Hot Springs, a place considered to have healing properties by the local people. Once we leave here, we head to your Lodge on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Though today will have been a long day’s drive with majestic scenery, we take time on arrival to enjoy some Sundowners and watch the sun going down on the horizon. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 8Lake Bunyonyi

Today you get to choose what you would like to do. The list is endless : There is Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Forest, where we go in search for these majestic animals through thick untamed rainforest. You will be scrambling over mossy rocks and through deep undergrowth and it can be arduous at times and requires a certain level of fitness. Nevertheless, watching Gorillas in their natural habitat is a memory that will last a lifetime. Your experienced ranger guides will not only share their role in looking after these beautiful creatures with you but also and about their history and gorilla lifestyle; Alternatively there is Mountain Biking; Batwa Pygmy Village Visit; A Boat Ride on Lake Bunyoni, A trip to a local School to meet the children from a local village; Zip Lining around Lake Bunyonyi. At the end of the day and depending on what adventure you have chosen we all head back to the Lodge to share our adventures over sundowners and dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 9Exploration of Lake Bunyonyi islands

Lake Bunyonyi region is one of the most beautiful places in Uganda and today we take you out on the Lake in a Dug Out Canoe to explore the beauty, secrets and people that live on the Islands in this spectacular Lake. We stop at some of the Islands to hear some of the island stories, visit a traditional healer, craft maker, local family, and walk around “Punishment Island”. If there is time we also try to take you on some walks simply to enjoy the flora and fauna of these islands. As this is your last evening we all spend it back at the lodge where you will be able to swap your stories, share your dreams and be able to reflect on all the adventures you have had in this activity packed holiday. Day 10Return to Entebbe and Departure

We leave after breakfast to drive back to Entebbe and then the Airport, stopping en route at the equator for your photographs. (Breakfast & Lunch included)
