Tour Details

For those wishing to experience Kenya’s parks located close to the Kenyan coast; this “bush and beach” combination is the trip for you. You will spend the first couple of days exploring Amboseli with all its’ spectacular displays of wildlife; Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Cheetah, Buffalo and various Plains’ Game against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. We take a little time off our game viewing to visit the local Masai Community who live on the outskirts of the park and who are always happy to share their experiences and culture with you. Thereafter we continue towards the Tsavo ecosystem which is one of the largest in Kenya and for this less crowded than other parks. The tour ends at the warm coastal village of Watamu where you will spend a few days enjoying and exploring the beach side at leisure. Watamu is a beautiful and peaceful village on the Kenya Coast, nestled between pristine beaches and lush tropical forest.

Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi to Amboseli

Early morning departure from Nairobi; drive south through Masai country to the plains below Mount Kilimanjaro where Amboseli is situated. We arrive the lodge in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive in the park before returning back to the lodge as dusk ensues. With the majestic backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro, spectacular displays of wildlife – Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino, Cheetah, Buffalo and various plains’ game, postcard perfect pictures are almost always guaranteed.

Day 2Amboseli

We spend the day exploring the park with early morning and afternoon game drives in search of Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Cheetah, Wildebeest, Hyena, Jackal, Warthogs, Zebra and there is no doubt you will get sightings of the Masai giraffe.  There is the option to visit a nearby local Masai Village for a Cultural Tour to get a better understanding of their way of life.

Day 3Amboseli to Tsavo West

After breakfast we depart for Tsavo West National Park. We visit the Mzima Springs, which are favorite haunts of both the Hippo and Crocodile that can be seen from an underwater observation chamber. Arriving at the lodge; you can enjoy sightings of elephants, buffalo and other plains game drinking and cooling off by the lodge water hole.

Day 4Tsavo West

Arise early to a hearty breakfast as we depart for another day of park exploration! We visit the scenic “shetani lava flow;” a black lava flow of eight kilometers, 1.6 kilometers wide and five meters deep being the remains of volcanic eruptions. They were subject of tales among local communities who named the flow; shetani,; meaning evil in Kiswahili, after it spewed from the earth when it was just 240 years old! We enjoy lunch & relaxation by the pool or waterhole later in the day.

Day 4Tsavo West to Tsavo East

Early in the morning we drive to Tsavo East. This park was famed for its large herds of elephant covered in red dust and fine scenery. Much of the wildlife is concentrated on the Galana River, which has plentiful crocs and hippos though the landscape is flatter and drier. Likewise, Kudus, waterbucks and dikdiks are common along the river banks. We settle into our tented camp in the late afternoon which enjoys a unique setting overlooking a watering hole in the heart of Kenya’s Tsavo East Park.

Day 5Tsavo East

Early breakfast as we enjoy game drives and visit the scenic Lugards Falls, Mudanda Rocks (attracts elephants in the drier season) and Aruba Dam. There is a great variety of wildlife and birdlife to be seen in the Park: lion, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, serval cats, genet cats, antelopes, kongoni, lesser kudu, oryx, klipspringer, impala, striped hyena, gazelles, buffalos and elephants. Some 500 bird species have been recorded in the area, including ostrich and migratory kestrels.

Day 6Tsavo East to Watamu

Early morning breakfast by the waterhole observing the various animals that are attracted to the waterhole; from herds of Buffalo to cheeky Baboons and cautious Warthogs. We depart thereafter towards the small fishing village known as Watamu with packed lunches. The area fully reflects the meaning of its name which in Swahili means; sweet people; We
arrive Watamu in the afternoon hours with ample time for you to check in and settle into your luxurious accommodation along the pristine shores of Watamu. Here you bid your Goodbyes to your guide who will depart back towards Nairobi.

Day 7 - 9Watamu

The days are spent at leisure; relaxing by the pool or partaking in the vast optional activities available in Watamu. There are numerous water sports available offered at the resort (payable and organized directly) which include snorkeling, Kite surfing and sport fishing. You may visit nearby Mida Creek located south of Malindi, just near Watamu which covers about 32 square kilometers. It consists of a muddy plain that is discovered with low tides and mangrove forests that attract a multitude of fauna. Along the inlets numerous bird species can be observed, among which a Kingfisher, an Egret, an Osprey, a Sea Eagle, the Yellow Billed Storks with a woolly neck, grey herons abound. Flamingoes are often seen feeding in Mida. Hire a canoe/kayak and enjoy exploration of the creek before returning back towards your hotel for an afternoon swim and relaxation before winding down for the evening.

The resort can help organize a visit to the Gedi Ruins; one of the few historical sites in Kenya located in the village of Gede. The remains of the Arab city date back to the period between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries. The ruins are surrounded by forests, monkeys and numerous butterflies. Alternatively; visit Malindi town for some sightseeing or visit to the Malindi Marine Park. The park is endowed with magnificent resources such as fringing reefs, coral, sea grass, mangroves, mudflats, high fish diversity, marine mammals, turtles and shorebirds.

Day 10Watamu to Nairobi

Final breakfast before room check out and transfer to Malindi airport. The airport is located about 30 minutes’ drive from Watamu where you will board the approximately 1.5hrs flight back to Nairobi’s international airport in good time for you to catch your flight back home with lasting memories of a memorable trip in Kenya
