Uganda Safari is ideal for those interested in a range of activities; from game drives and nature walks to trekking and boat rides.

Uganda Safari begins with an overnight in Entebbe and the next day we drive to Ziwa sanctuary for rhino viewing; proceed northwest of the capital to Murchison Falls National Park to enjoy a great game viewing experience, hike to the falls and boat cruise on river Nile.  We continue southwest to Kibale Forest for chimp tracking and Queen Elizabeth Park for another exceptional game drive in search of tree climbing lions, African buffalo, elephant, hippos among others…. The tour takes you further south to the misty Bwindi Impenetrable Forest famous for its mountain gorilla trekking trips. Conclude your trip with a guided bush walk at Lake Mburo pointing to a salt lick where many animals are attracted to the salty rocks, before you journey back to Entebbe.

Complementaries

  • Gorilla trekking is a strenuous activity and one should be physically fit to enjoy this tour
  • Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years
  • Minimum chimpanzee tracking age is 12 years
  • Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to track
  • While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and sighting the gorillas, the quality of the gorilla trekking cannot be guaranteed
  • Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour
Itinerary

Day 1Entebbe [arrival day]

Ultimate Uganda Safari starts with a pick up from Entebbe International airport upon arrival and transfer to the hotel for overnight stay. (Bed only)

Day 2Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park

This Uganda Safari starts with a drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino trekking. Here you may also spot a range of other species including Uganda kobs, oribis, bush bucks, and water buck. Lunch will be served at the Sanctuary. Proceed north of Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park which is Uganda’s largest National Park. The Nile River flows through the middle of the park creating the impressive Murchison Falls which is the parks’ major attraction. We visit the top of the Falls, a leisurely 45-minute hike to the top of the falls, exposing participants to Mother Nature’s wondrous gorge, also known as devils cauldron.

The park landscape features dense rainforest, undulating savannah and a diversity of abundant wildlife. Commonly spotted wildlife include: lions, antelope, waterbucks, hippos and crocodiles. Dinner and overnight stay at Paraa Safari Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 3Murchison Falls National Park

We enjoy a pre-dawn game safari drive. Return from your game drive for a full breakfast and refreshments. After lunch, transfer to the Nile river to catch the boat safari. On this 3 hours safari look out for numerous hippos, enormous crocodiles, amazing bird life (including the elusive shoebill). Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Day 4Murchison to Fort Portal

An early Breakfast and proceed south west to Fort Portal.
Fort Portal offers sublime scenery with views over the Ruwenzori Range and the Mufumbiro volcanoes, as well as flourishing landscapes with it being a verdant tea-growing area. Arrive at Kibale in the afternoon and overnight at Papaya Lake Lodge (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 5Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Morning drive to Kibale Park headquarters for the Chimpanzee trekking briefing and Trekking Experience for approx. 2 to 3 hours. Look out for the black & white colobus, red tailed monkey or the grey cheeked mangabey. Your guides will be able to show you different bird species and traditional plant species within the forest. This walk is for 6 people in a group.

Return to the lodge for lunch before driving further south to Queen Elizabeth National Park for evening. The Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth takes place in the open grasslands of Kasenyi in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park is a primary game viewing area due to the variety of wildlife which includes antelopes, elephants, buffalos, and lions. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide to help track the animals.

Day 6Queen Elizabeth National Park

We enjoy a pre-dawn game drive in the company of a guide along the Kasenyi plains in search of antelopes, elephants, buffalos and lions. Return to the lodge in the mid-morning for a full breakfast and refreshment.
Lunch followed by an afternoon boat ride (approx. 2 to 3hrs) boat safari along the famous Kazinga Channel. Kazinga Channel Kingfisher Boat is a leisurely boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Passengers may encounter herds of elephant, buffalo and antelope, families of warthog, large groups of hippo, and crocodiles basking on the shore. Kazinga’s shores are a haven for numerous birds, including many migratory species as they make their way south to warmer climates. The cruise also provides a spectacular view of the beautiful Mweya Peninsula and life in local fishing villages set along the banks. Return from your boat safari and transfer back to your Lodge for dinner and overnight stay. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 7Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast we visit Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park to enjoy a mid-Morning Game drive in Ishasha for the tree climbing lions. Besides the tree-climbing lions, there is plenty of other wildlife to be seen including the Ugandan Kob, buffalo, elephant, hippo and zebra.
Lunch en route. Afternoon proceed on to Bwindi Forest arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a lodge.

Day 8Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Wake early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla trekking. We drive to the park headquarters for registration and a talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, to track the gorillas. (Please note this trek can take from 30 minutes to 5-6 hours).

This bit of uganda safari requires a reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them ‘talk’ to one another, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the Silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It’s amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left. Return to the lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation. We stay again at the lodge.

Day 9Bwindi - Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, we drive to Lake Mburo National Park, arriving in time for lunch followed by an evening game drive.
Lake Mburo National Park shelters almost seventy mammal species and over 300 avian species in its forests, swamps and grasslands. This spectacular landscape features open plains of savannah interrupted by rocky ridges, forested gorges and lush dense woodland. Crocodiles, hippos and a myriad of water birds are found in and around the five lakes, of which Lake Mburo is the largest. Other commonly spotted wildlife include: impala, Oribi, eland, zebra, buffalo, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hyena, hippo and reedbuck. .Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park & enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion.

Day 10Entebbe- End of Itinerary

Ultimate Uganda Safari comes to an end with a guided bushwalk and a hike. The guided walk at Rwonyo leads to a salt lick where many animals are attracted to the salty rocks, while the morning walks on the western side of the lake allows you to easily encounter hyenas returning to their dens and hippos retreating to the lake. The Hikes through the woodland provides an opportunity to sight forest birds and mammal. The walk to the top of the hill rewards visitors with a spectacular view of 9 of the region’s 14 lakes.
Later proceed to Kampala or Entebbe with lunch en route and a brief stopover at the Equator line for photography. Drop off at your preferred Kampala/Entebbe hotel or Entebbe International Airport in the evening.
