Highlights

Spend four days at Eliye Springs, where you will be able to see the change of beautiful colors reflected across the waters on Lake Turkana during the breathtaking sunrise. There are boat rides to Central Island National Park with its amazing crater lakes and birdlife. For those of you who wish you may choose to spend a night on the island under a special ‘mosquito proof’ net where you can sleep directly under the amazing sky with a million stars.

The rest of your time at the Resort can be spent at leisure with options such as swimming in Lake Turkana, relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach, small walks around the romantic sand dunes or perhaps visiting the local Turkana market or a local homestead. This unique landscape is spectacular so make sure you bring a camera with you for some amazing photographs.

Tour Details

Catch a scheduled flight from Nairobi to Lodwar where you will be picked up and tacked to Eliye Springs Resort, Lake Turkana.  This is a beautiful site with a unique beach on the Western side of Lake Turkana. Your accommodation is in self-contained ‘bomas’ overlooking Lake Turkana and depending on what time you arrive you will spend the day discovering the area. The first evening is spent enjoying sundowners enjoying the sunset.

There is a trip to Central Island, a unique triple volcano poking gauntly out of the water which has two amazing crater lakes and bird life. Crocodile crater is named after the number of Nile crocodiles that occupy the lake which is home to Africa’s largest and most accessible nursery! Once your crocodile spotting is done then we hike to Flamingo Crater where you may see thousands of pink lesser Flamingos on the opal waters of the alkaline Flamingo Lake (depending on time of year).

We invite you to spend a night on the island under the stars in our ‘special mosquito net bed’ from where you will lie directly under the amazing sky with millions of stars only separated by the netting! For those less adventurous you will be transferred back to your Bomas on the mainland.

Other activities will include swimming in Lake Turkana, relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach, small walks around the romantic sand dunes, and visits to the local Turkana market with the women who presents their traditional handicrafts.

Itinerary

Day 1 Nairobi to Lodwar

Catch the scheduled flight from Nairobi towards Lodwar town. You will be met at Lodwar for an onward transfer to Eliye Springs by 4×4 cruiser, a beautiful site with a unique beach on the Western side of Lake Turkana. Your accommodation will be in a self contained ‘Bomas’ overlooking Lake Turkana. These are traditional Turkana huts with luxurious and spacious rooms, each with a double bed, ensuite bathrooms, solar lights and verandas with chairs facing the Lake. Depending on your travel schedule, you may have time to spend the day discovering the area and the beauty of your “Bomas”!

Around 5.30 pm on your first evening you will be picked up by the Coxswain for a boat ride along the shores of Lake Turkana, so you can enjoy a sundowner whilst the sun is setting. Dinner is served back at the resort amongst the Doum Palms. ( Lunch & Dinner included)

Day 2Central Island National park

If you are able to wake around 6 am you will be able see the sunrise reflected on the waters of Lake Turkana from the comfort of your bed. After breakfast their is a boat ride to the Central Island National Park, after which you will be able to explore on foot and see the amazing crater lakes and Crocodiles and birdlife that live here. The island scant on vegetation, has some sheltered lees which are overgrown with thick grass and bushes for a short period each year, and this is where you will find the Crocodile nests that are dug beneath this foliage.

Central Island is actually a unique triple volcano poking out of the water, most of the island is taken up by two crater lakes (a third has dried up) hidden behind its rocky shores. It is a beautiful site with a unique beach on the Western side of Lake Turkana and some self contained ‘Bomas’ overlooking Lake Turkana. For those who wish to stay on this unique island for the night, you will be dropped off at the end of the afternoon at the campsite where the staff will set up and prepared your dinner. The accommodation for the night is an adventurous one! You may choose to sleep in a “normal”. dome tent or in our special “mosquito/ fly tent;” where you will lie directly under the amazing sky with millions of stars separated only by netting! (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

For those of you who wish to stay on the island for the night you will be dropped off at the campsite where the staff will set up and prepare your dinner. The accommodation for the night is an adventurous one! You may choose to sleep in a “normal” (closed) dome tent or in our special “mosquito/ fly tent;” where you will lie directly under the amazing sky with millions of stars separated only by netting!

Main Activities: Boat Tour, walking tour on Central island, birdwatching.

Optional activities: Sleeping under the stars on Central Island.

Day 3Lake Turkana

The day is spent at leisure relaxing back at the resort. Options include: Swimming in Lake Turkana is a must, relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach, small walks around the romantic sand dunes, and visit to the local Turkana market with the women who presents their traditional handicraft. In case you wish to visit a traditional Turkana home stead you can do so or go for another 1 hour boats ride and/ or have fun on the water with Donuts pulled by the speed boat. Your evening will end with a tranquil dinner by the lake. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

Main Activities: Swimming, Sunbathing, Dinner by Lakeside.

Optional Activities: Market Trip, Visit to traditional Turkana homestead, boat ride, “fun with water donuts.”
Sport fishing enthusiasts can book the fishing boat in advance and get an opportunity to catch Nile Perch, Tilapia and Mudfish.

Day 4Lake Turkana to Nairobi

Early breakfast before you start the journey back to Lodwar, through the desert sand dunes around Lake Turkana. We encourage you to leave early so you can have time to take some amazing pictures of this unique landscape. You will be dropped off in good time at the airstrip to catch your scheduled flight back to Nairobi. (Breakfast & Lunch included).

Optional Activity: Visit to “Christ the Redeemer Statue” in Lodwar.
